    Visto, an international leading software development company which has opened up wireless email and PIM solutions to all user levels, employs over 120 people across Europe.

    The Challenge

    In 2005, in order to meet its growth targets, Visto urgently needed to hire high calibre candidates for Engineering and Professional Services in the UK and for Sales and Marketing functions across Europe. The company recognised that to achieve this, specialist recruitment expertise would be needed and approached Independent RPO for help.

    The Solution

    Independent RPO assessed the recruitment processes already in place at Visto before placing an on-site Recruitment Manager with them to take full responsibility for all aspects of recruitment.

    Independent RPO instigated major improvements within the PSL (Preferred Supply List) whilst also maintaining candidate quality and reducing time-to-hire.

    The Results

    Audit and Improvement

    At the end of the first year in 2005, Independent surveyed all of Visto's new employees about the recruitment and selection service they had received and established that induction was an area that needed improvement.

    Introduction of an Induction Programme

    As a result of Independent's engagement, Visto has introduced an induction programme operated by the HR team and an external trainer to help all new employees settle in more quickly and understand more about Visto's global organisation.

    Management & Centralisation of the Recruitment function

    Independent RPO assumed responsibility for the whole recruitment operation by taking control of the PSL and introducing stringent new requirements for suppliers in both IT and Sales & Marketing.

    Visto's PSL now conforms to a series of new, standardised procedures that deliver quality candidates within very short timescales.

    In addition, communication between Hiring Managers and Agencies is good, supporting Independent's emphasis on the importance of regular informal communication in achieving effective working relationships.

    Changes to the Recruitment Function & Successful Hiring

    Independent RPO introduced stringent Account Management procedures to the recruitment process at Visto. As well as strict Agency Management (key contact with agencies, strict terms) and a Recruitment Specialist to manage and control the end-to-end hiring process, over 100 new starters were hired in UK and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) in just 18 months.
